Archaeology & Disease

Archaeologist Paul Reed (Salmon Ruins & Archaeology Southwest) discusses some of the diseases that have been discovered among the ancient peoples who once lived in the southwest.  Some disease and illness were already here, but many were brought to the new world from the old and decimated native populations who had no immunity to the previous unknown viruses.  Limited medical knowledge of the time meant neither side knew the cause of the sickness and deaths. The discussion was prompted by this article in Science Magazine.

Every 15 Minutes

Michele Truby Tillen, San Juan County Emergency Management, discusses the Every 15 Minute program, which will be presented at Aztec High School on March 28-29, 2016.  The program reminds high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving, or getting into the car with someone who has been drinking.  Michele Truby-Tillen discusses how the program has changes slightly to remain affordable and how powerful the message is for San Juan County teenagers to hear right before  prom season.
