County Disaster Drill: Edward Smilie

Farmington Emergency Management Director Edward Smilie discusses this year's drill. Every year in September, San Juan County Office of Emergency Management in partnership with local law enforcement, emergency services, and industry, work together to create a simulated real world disaster training. Participating agencies and businesses spent most of the year planning the one-day simulation, beginning with a Homeland Security Orientation Seminar, held in January and culminating in a Full Scale Disaster Simulation on September 13, 2017 from 8am to Noon.
This year Enterprise Products stepped up to sponsor the event. Municipal Dr. in Farmington will have restricted access with areas around Farmington City Hall and Reilly Ave. being closed during set up of the simulation, thru the day as the simulation progresses, until the area has been released after Noon.

Fedarko will appear for a series of free events on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 to discuss his book and the issues it raises.

A Great Father/Son story as Rick Rason and his father Walter talk about training for a marathon next spring in New Orleans, Louisiana. Walter can't walk after an accident a few years ago, so both men are training using specialized draft wheelchairs.
While he grew up in San Juan County, Rick Rascon is now Executive Chef at a facility for people with disabilities in Louisiana.

Theatre and television actors Wendie Malick and Dan Lauria talk about their upcoming benefit theatre production of "Love Letters" at the DurangoA rts Center Labor Day weekend.
Malick is known for her character Victoria Chase on "Hot in Cleveland" and Nina on "Just Shoot Me." Lauria played thr father, Jack Arnold on "The Wonder Years."
Both Malick and Lauria volunteer their time to appear in this production. "Love Letters" will be performed at 7pm on Saturday, Seoptenmbver 2, and 2pm on Sunday, September 3. Proceeds benefit education programs at the Durango Arts Center. Tickets: 970-259-2606 or here.
