As we begin the new year, Archaeologist Paul Reed discusses a recent update to the "Firsts" list: Florida's St. Augustine may be de-throned as the "first" multi-year settlement in North America. Evidence announced only last month by the University of West Florida seems to indicate an earlier community on the opposite side of the state, in modern-day Pensacola, Florida.
